The Banque Nationale de la République d'Haïti was the central bank and government treasury of Haiti, originally established under French and later US foreign control. By 1910 National City Bank of New York had secured a controlling interest, embedding American financial leverage directly in Haitian state finances. The bank became a central instrument of the US occupation after 1915, collecting customs revenues and managing the 1922 loan that kept Haiti in a debt relationship with US creditors long after the Marines withdrew in 1934.
