Henri Christophe, King of northern Haiti, shot himself on October 8, 1820 at the Sans-Souci Palace as a revolt among his officers collapsed his regime. Incapacitated by a stroke since 1819 and facing a mutiny by his troops, Christophe chose suicide over capture. His body was interred at the Citadelle Laferrière, the fortress he had built. His death ended the Kingdom of Haiti in the north, which was then reunified with the Republic of Haiti under Jean-Pierre Boyer.
Faced with paralysis from a stroke and a military rebellion, shot himself at Sans-Souci Palace with a silver bullet, according to legend.
His body was interred at the Citadelle
