COMMITTED TO THE WORK-HOUSE,
AS A RUNAWAY,
A Negro Man of the Angola country, who says his name is TOE--he is 5 feet 7 inches high, his two upper front teeth are out, the others bad; no conspicuous country marks, appears to be about 20 years old, says he has been in the country about three years; that he made oak baskets and minded the field at home, and is slow of speech. He says he was bought by a lady named Miss Polly--he does not remember to what part of the state he was carried, but that the plantation he lived on made Rice and Corn, and that the driver’s name was Fortune. From all that can be collected, it is presumable that he may belong to some of the families of the Pauley’s, in Georgetown district.
